A.J. Allmendinger scores DNF in 400th start

While he visited Victory Lane the day before in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Sunday was a different story for A.J. Allmendinger.

Allmendinger, who made his 400th start in the NASCAR Cup Series in the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas road course, started seventh and picked up eight stage points.

Yet, the Kaulig Racing driver, winner of two Cup Series road course races, failed to finish the race after a crash relegated him to a 34th-place finish after 60 laps.

HISTORY
Allmendinger is the 68th driver in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series to race in at least 400 points-awarding Cup Series races.

The first driver to earn 400 start in the Cup Series was three-time series champion Lee Petty in 1960.

Allmendinger made his Cup Series debut in 2007, competing for Rookie-of-the-Year honors with the upstart Team Red Bull.

He competed in the Cup Series through 2018, amassing one victory in 2014 with JTG-Daugherty Racing. During his first tenure in the Cup Series, Allmendinger raced for teams including Richard Petty Motorsports, Phoenix Racing and Team Penske.

Allmendinger returned on a part-time basis to the Cup Series in 2021 with Kaulig Racing, winning the Indianapolis Road Course race and racing half the schedule in 2022 for the team before returning this season to the Cup Series full-time.

In 400 starts, Allmendinger has earned 4 poles, 2 wins, 16 Top-5 finishes, 69 Top-10 finishes, 559 laps led and one playoff berth (2014).
