A look at Jimmie Johnson’s 11 Dover wins

The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has won at Dover 11 times, the most he has won at any NASCAR racetrack.

Johnson’s 11 wins are the most of any competitor, and he will have an opportunity to aim for win No. 84 piloting the No. 84 car and earn a 12th victory at the one-mile facility.

Ahead of the Wurth 400, we revisit each of Johnson’s triumphs at the Delaware track.

No. 1: June 2, 2022 (career win No. 2)

Starting 10th, Johnson grabbed the lead on lap 125, leading a total of four times for 188 laps, the most of any driver.

No. 2: Sept. 22, 2002 (career win No. 3)

Johnson started 19th and didn’t sniff the lead till past the halfway mark (204/400), but led on four occasions for 170 laps (the most of the field) to sweep both Dover races.

No. 3: Sept. 25, 2005 (career win No. 17)

Johnson led 134 laps and survived NASCAR Overtime to take the win over fellow Hendrick Motorsports teammate and rookie Kyle Busch and Rusty Wallace.

No. 4: May 31, 2009 (career win No. 42)

After starting eighth, Johnson propelled to the lead by lap 49. Johnson led nine times for 298 of the 400 laps.

No. 5: September 27, 2009 (career win No. 44)

Johnson swept the Dover races in 2009. In the fall race, Johnson started on pole and led 271 laps en route to his first of four wins during the playoffs and ultimately his fourth consecutive championship.

No. 6: September 26, 2010 (career win No. 53)

Like his other Dover wins, Johnson eclipsed the three-digit mark, leading 191 laps after starting from the pole.

The victory was his final of 2010 ahead of his NASCAR-record fifth consecutive championship.

No. 7: June 3, 2012 (career win No. 57)

Starting outside pole, Johnson put on a dominating performance, leading 289 laps in his Madagascar 3-themed No. 48 car.

“It was a team effort,” Johnson said of the win. “I think the way we protected the win was pit road.”

No. 8: September 29, 2013 (career win No. 65)

Leading five times for 243 laps, Johnson continued to show why Dover is one of his strongsuits.

Johnson won this race as the second race of the playoffs and later in the year at Fort Worth, helping him ultimately captured his sixth series title that year.

No. 9: June 1, 2014 (career win No. 68)

After starting fourth, Johnson led 243 laps en route to his second win of the 2014 season.

No. 10: May 31, 2015 (career win No. 74)

Not in typical Johnson fashion, the racer led the final 23 laps to capture his fourth win of the season.

No. 11: (career win No. 83)

Johnson led only seven laps to earn his third victory of the 2024 season. This win tied Johnson with three-time champion Cale Yarborough on the series’ all-time wins list at sixth.

To date, the sight of win No. 11 is Johnson’s most-recent Cup Series victory.

This weekend

Sunday will be Johnson’s first start at the track since his final full-time season in 2020.

The Wurth 400 is scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 28 at 2 p.m. ET (FS1/PRN).
