Alex Bowman out 3 additional NASCAR Cup Series races

CONCORD, N.C. — Alex Bowman will sit out at least the next three NASCAR Cup Series races at Darlington, Martinsville, and Bristol Hendrick Motorsports announced.

He has an additional four weeks to recover while Justin Allgaier continues to pilot the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet in the interim.

Bowman was slated to run the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Darlington as well.

Cup Series teammate Kyle Larson will step up to run the JRM No. 88 in his place for his attempt at back-to-back series wins.

Alex began suffering his vertigo symptoms during the Cup Series race at COTA on March 1st and has been out recovering ever since.

“Alex continues to experience symptoms, so we are following the guidance of the medical team and giving him the time he needs to recover,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports.

While Bowman is seemingly out of chase contention himself, the owners championship is still in play for the 48 team.

After a 25th-placed finish at Las Vegas this past weekend Justin Allgaier has an opportunity to bank quality points for the team at tracks where he’s found great success in the O’Reilly Series.

“We see how hard he’s working to get back behind the wheel, and we’re looking forward to his return when he’s medically cleared. Everyone at Hendrick Motorsports is 100% behind Alex.”  Andrews concluded.

The sport thrives when drivers are healthy and all of TRE wishes Alex a fast and complete recovery as he attempts to get back to racing.

Alex Bowman will miss at least the next three races as he continues to recover from vertigo. Justin Allgaier will fill in through Bristol.
