Food City 500 polesitter Alex Bowman, who led the opening 40 laps and collected 16 stage points across Stages 1 and 2, finished 37th, out of the race, with an engine issue.

Bowman started reporting to his Hendrick Motorsports team during Stage 3, around lap 287 of the 500-lap race, he was โ€œblowing up.โ€

Bowman raced around the Tennessee speedway for about another 50 laps, falling multiple laps down, before pulling behind the wall.

After starting the season with five Top-10 finishes in the first six races, Bowman has extended a streak of no Top-10 finishes to three consecutive events.

Bowman finished 27th at Martinsville and 35th last weekend at Darlington.

Entering Bristol, Bowman was 10th in points with a 59-point cushion to the NASCAR Playoffs cutline.
