Alex Palou gets back in the win column at Detroit
DETROIT – Alex Palou gets out of his two race NTT INDYCAR Series winless slump to win the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
This is his 23rd career win and his fourth of the season.

Palou knows how to wheel his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda when he places it on the pole. This is now his tenth win after lining up from the top spot but it was not as simple as that today.
He led the first 15 laps but after Christian Rasmussen’s wreck, he was challenged for the race lead.
Will Power took advantage of the caution and grabbed the lead on lap 17 from the Spanish champion. He led a total of 18 laps in the event but the front row starter would not find the finish.
Alex would regain the lead during the middle of the following pit cycle when a caution came out for Kyffin Simpson and Graham Rahal. Both drivers were able to continue with no damage and Palou set off once more in the lead after the caution period was over.
While he led a race high 71 of the 100 laps. He could not get too far away from his competitors for too long. The streets of Detroit had a few staggered cautions after which bunched the field up two more times.
In the end, Palou was able to hold of a strong challenge by the defending winner, Kyle Kirkwood, to secure the final win of the month.
He extends his championship lead over Kirkwood to 62 points as the three-time defending champion, four total, looks to make it four in a row.
Notable Results
Kyle Kirkwood joined Palou on the podium in second. This is a rather welcomed result after his up and down weekend where he found the barriers.
Graham Rahal came home third. The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing team could not believe that prior sentence midway through the race. He was able to snatch the final podium position after David Malukas and Mick Schumacher collided.
David Malukas can’t wait for the month to end. His great but unfortunate finish a week ago in the Indianapolis 500 left him a little numb this week. He was fortunate to have fantastic support around him and came into the weekend with renewed hopes.
Those hopes turned to reality before the race started. He found the inside wall in turn seven during qualifying which resulted in a last-placed starting position and a backup car. During the race, he rebounded to inside the top ten and was even competing for the final two podium positions before Schumacher missed his breaking point.
The Arrow McLaren duo of Pato O’Ward and Christian Lundgaard came home fourth and fifth.
The 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist followed his second career INDYCAR win up with a top ten in sixth.
Louis Foster joined his RLL teammate inside the top ten. He tied his career best finish in the series as he’s seen a personal uptick in performance this season.
Marcus Ericsson came home eighth while Kyffin Simpson recovered from a drive-through penalty to come home in ninth.
Finally, Josef Newgarden rounded out the top ten after he carved through the field for the result.
