All-time Brickyard 400 winners
Here is a look at the all-time winners of the Brickyard 400 as the NASCAR Cup Series returns to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval layout.
Jeff Gordon: 5 wins
The winner of the first Brickyard 400, Jeff Gordon backed up the maiden success with wins in the race every 10 years – in 2004 and 2014 – and wins in between when he won the NASCAR Cup Series championship – in 1998 and 2001.
Gordon leads all drivers in not only wins but Top-5 finishes (12), Top-10s (17), laps led (528 of 3519) and poles (three, tied with Kevin Harvick) all-time in the Brickyard 400. He also has the third-best average finish all-time (10.0 in 23 starts).
Jimmie Johnson: 4 wins
Gordon’s protégé, Jimmie Johnson took a page of his book, winning his first Brickyard 400 in 2006. Johnson then won in 2007, 2009 and 2012. 2012 was the only he didn’t back his Brickyard 400 win with a Cup Series title.
Johnson also has the fifth-most Top-5s all-time (6) and fourth-most laps led (306 of 2648).
You may want to temper your expectations this Sunday. His best finish with Legacy Motor Club is 28th, twice.
If anything, Indy may be a good place for him and his Legacy Motor Club organization to right the ship on a transitional year.
Kevin Harvick: 3 wins
Harvick earned his first Brickyard win in 2003, driving for Richard Childress Racing. 16 years later, in a similar-looking car fielded by Stewart-Haas Racing, Harvick started a 1-2 punch of wins, winning in 2019 and 2020.
Harvick holds the best average finish all-time in the Brickyard 400, with an average of 8.6 in 20 starts. He’s also third all-time for Top-5s (eight), second for Top-10s (14), tied for most poles (three), second for laps led (389 of 3211).
Harvick also never had a DNF in the Brickyard 400 and just one finish off of the lead lap.
Kyle Busch: 2 wins
Like Harvick, Busch reeled off his Brickyard 400 success in succession, winning the 2015 and 2016 editions.
Busch pulled off a commanding 149 of 170 laps led in his second triumph. That did wonders for slotting him third all-time for laps led (324 of 2404) in the 400.
The two-time champion also ranks third all-time for poles (two), fourth for Top-10s (12) and seventh for both Top-5s (five) and average finish (12.1).

Dale Jarrett, Tony Stewart: 2 wins
Jarrett won in 1996 and 1999 – the latter en route to his lone NASCAR Cup Series crown. He led 117 of 160 laps in 1999.
Jarrett has led the seventh-most laps all-time (186 of 2003) and earned the 10th-most Top-5s (five) in the Brickyard 400.
Stewart has similar stellar numbers and triumphs in close succession. He won in 2005 en route to his second Cup Series crown. Then, he won in 2007.
Stewart has the fourth-most Top-5s all-time (seven), seventh-most Top-10s (11), fifth-most laps led (227 of 2895) and the second-best average finish (9.7 in 18 starts).
Stewart never had a DNF in the Brickyard 400 and never finished off of the lead lap. He also had a pole in 2002 to boot.
Brad Keselowski: 1 win
Keselowski’s win was notable for being the only Brickyard 400 run on a Monday. He won in 2018, passing Denny Hamlin in a late-race duel with two laps to go.

Dale Earnhardt: 1 win
In 1995, Earnhardt claimed victory at the Brickyard after pit strategy during the lone caution of the race put him out in front for the final 28 laps.
Earnhardt regarded the victory as one of the biggest of his career. It was the only time he won there.
He made just seven starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, earning the 1995 win, three Top-5 finishes and five Top-10s, with an average finish of 10.4 (fifth-best all-time among drivers with at least five starts).

Nine drivers: 1 win each
Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte, Jamie McMurray, Kasey Kahne, Paul Menard, Ricky Rudd, Ryan Newman, Kyle Larson and Bubba Wallace have each won the Brickyard 400 once apiece.
Rudd won as an owner-driver in 1997, Labonte won in 2000 en route to his only NASCAR Cup Series championship and Elliott won for Evernham in 2002.
There were three one-time winners from 2010-2013: McMurray (2010), Menard (2011) and Newman (2013). Kahne won in 2017 in the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet that Larson won with in 2024. Larson fell to Bubba Wallace in 2025.
