Allmendinger among six drivers to earn best finish of 2021

A.J. Allmendinger earned his second career NASCAR Cup Series win and Kaulig Racing’s first Cup win in Sunday’s Verizon 200 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Allmendinger was also one of six drivers to earn their best NASCAR Cup Series finish of 2021.

Erik Jones (7th), Justin Haley (8th), Austin Cindric (9th), Josh Bilicki (18th) and Quin Houff (22nd) also earned their best finish of the season.

Cindric and Bilicki each earned their best career finish.

Jones finished fourth and earned seven points in Stage One, en route to his third Top 10 finish of the season. His previous-best finish of the season was ninth at the March Bristol dirt race.

Haley’s eighth-place finish is his best finish since winning the 2019 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. He finished eighth in Stage One and sixth in Stage Two.

Houff’s 22nd-place finish is his second-best career finish. His best career finish is 13th at Talladega in October 2020.

Currently, he resides in Albuquerque, N.M., where he works for KOB 4, an NBC station. He works as a digital producer and does on-air reports.
