Michael Annett will miss the 2021 NASCAR XFINITY Series as Josh Berry will serve as his substitute in Friday’s Food City 300 regular-season finale.

According to JRM, Annett reinjured his right leg while working out this past week. The original injury was diagnosed as a stress fracture July 12 and surgery on it took place July 13.

Annett missed four races – at Atlanta, New Hampshire, Indianapolis road course and Michigan – due to the injury.

Since the injury and surgery, Annett also received points for starting at Watkins Glen and raced at Daytona, Darlington and Richmond.

Berry served as Annett’s substitute July 17 at New Hampshire and Aug. 21 at Michigan. Berry finished fourth at New Hampshire and eighth at Michigan after leading 24 of 139 laps.

Austin Dillon served as Annett’s substitute at Michigan. Defending NASCAR Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott served as his substitute at Atlanta, the Indianapolis road course and, after Annett exited the car, at Watkins Glen.

Annett is 13th in points, 66 points behind Riley Herbst, who currently holds the final NASCAR XFINITY Series playoff spot.
