Aric Almirola posts first Top-10 of 2021

Aric Almirola earned his first Top-10 finish of the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season with his sixth-place finish in the Toyota Owners 400 Sunday (April 18) at Richmond Raceway.

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver started 22nd, earning one stage point in his highest finish of the season.

“I really battled for fifth there at the end, but burnt up my tires on the outside in the process,” Almirola said. “Finally, a solid day for our Smithfield team.

“Everyone did their part and we were mistake free today. Let’s fire it up and keep it rolling.”

After the Richmond Raceway, Almirola gained one position in points and is ranked 27th overall.

Almirola is 77 points behind the playoffs cutline, more than one full race behind.

The series heads to Talladega Superspeedway next Sunday, the sight of Almirola’s last win in the Cup Series in October 2018, 86 races ago.
