Austin Dillon breaks 2-year winless streak at Daytona

Austin Dillon’s win in the Coke Zero Sugar 400 marked the Richard Childress Racing driver’s first Cup Series points win of 2022 and fourth of his career.
Dillon snapped a 78-race winless streak, dating back to Texas Motor Speedway in July of 2020. The victory was Dillon’s second at Daytona International Speedway.
“You just never give up and have faith,” Dillon said. “We had some tough finishes this year, like Charlotte. I beat myself up over that. I made a good move and just didn’t finish it off. Today we finished it off.”
The victory propelled Dillon into the playoffs for the fifth time in his career and the first time since 2020.

Additionally, Dillon earned the 101st win for the No. 3 in the Cup Series, tying the No. 3 car with the No. 2 car with the third-most points-awarding wins in Cup Series history. The No. 43 (199 wins) and the No. 11 car numbers (228 wins) have more.
“I’m so proud of these guys and I’m glad to be going to Victory Lane,” Dillon said.
Dillon is now tied for 82nd on the all-time NASCAR Cup Series wins list with 18 drivers, including active driver William Byron.
Other drivers who scored four total wins include Charlie Glotzbach, Pete Hamilton, Parnelli Jones, Joe Nemechek, Ken Schrader, and Michael Waltrip.
The next race for the NASCAR Cup Series is scheduled for Sunday, September 4, at Darlington Raceway to begin the playoffs.
