Carson Hocevar: NASCAR Cup Chase 2026 Preview

Carson “The Hurricane” Hocevar rode the eye of the storm to his first career win and NASCAR Cup Series chase birth in 2026.

Hocevar will enter his maiden Cup Series postseason as the 12th seed after sliding behind his teammate Daniel Suarez after his Daytona night ended in smoke.

His 2026 regular season has been more than just a flash in the pan. The Spire Motorsports standout has built himself up along with the team to be in their current positions.

Eye of the Storm

Carson and his No. 77 team entered the 2026 season with the hope of a breakthrough first postseason birth and perhaps a win. They got both.

After leading at the white flag of the 2026 Daytona 500 Hocevar and his team knew they had the right stuff to make the next jump in their relationship.

Another top-five result at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta set them up for what would be a career regular season together.

But sometimes being the hurricane comes with its own tropical depression. Hocevar saw his first run-in a week later at COTA which would set the tone for how his competitors would continue to treat him in his junior season.

Seven starts and one more top-five finish at Darlington he would finally breakthrough for his first career Cup Series victory as the eye of the hurricane could not be defeated at Talladega.

He rode the dente and the high of that victory to his highest career averages and totals in his career so far.

Through 26-races this has been his best season in terms of total top fives, tens, and twenties. Then he made a gigantic five position leap in his average starting position and finishing position.

Now, he will officially take another important step in his development as a first-time Chase driver.

Before he can, Hocevar has found himself in a cold streak. The past four events has been ones to forget and the team needs to find some sort of turnaround to start the Chase.

2026 Chase Outlook

Carson enters his first Chase with backwards momentum that will have to quickly turnaround in order for he and his No. 77 Spire Motorsports team to have any shot.

His previous four races before the Chase saw him DNF twice and fail to finish higher than 19th. The first obstacle to steer himself in the right direction is Darlington.

In six races at the raceway, he has two top-ten finishes that has come in his previous two races at the track. A second top-five will do the team wonders for the start to their Chase but one track has their full attention.

Talladega must be circled in red after his first career win in the spring. A repeat in Alabama is serious. Hocevar has proved himself as one of the premier superspeedway racers in the entire series.

This season, he averages a 16.0 at the track type. Take away his late race aggression and his average skyrockets to 2.6.

Unfortunately for Carson, the championship is not decided on superspeedways alone. He will have to continue his career-best qualifying season and reignite their intermediate program to its quarter-season glory.
