Clint Bowyer fastest in opening practice at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Clint Bowyer’s No. 14 Ford Fusion soared to the top of the charts in Thursday’s opening Coke Zero Sugar 400 practice at Daytona International Speedway. Bowyer turned a lap in 44.821 seconds (200.799 mph.)

Aric Almirola, who was the runner-up in February’s season opening Daytona 500, was second fastest with a lap in 44.845 seconds (200.691 mph.) Brad Keselowski was third (44.876 / 200.553), followed by Joey Logano in fourth (44.879 / 200.539) and Ryan Blaney in fifth (44.881 / 200.530 mph.)

Defending race winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 26th on the speed charts.

Final practice for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is slated to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET Thursday. Qualifying for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway will begin Friday at 4:10 p.m. ET.
