Connor Zilisch cleared for NASCAR Xfinity race after collarbone injury

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Connor Zilisch is cleared to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series after a collarbone injury in victory lane at Watkins Glen International.

Zilisch had surgery on his collarbone after he fell while celebrating his win in the Aug. 9 Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen. He didn’t miss any races, thanks to the Xfinity Series being off the following week.

Zilisch will have Parker Kligerman on standby if needed. He could start the race and have Kligerman take over and still collect points for the race.

Connor Zilisch leads the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship points standings by seven points over Justin Allgaier. If Zilisch still has the points lead after the Sept. 6 race at World Wide Technology Raceway Gateway, he will win the regular season championship and get 15 playoff points. With 36 playoff points earned already, he would start the playoffs with 2051 points if they started today.

Allgaier is closest to him with 2033 points if the playoff started today. That comes from 23 playoff points earned and 10 possibly coming if he is second in points after Gateway.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Wawa 250 goes green at Daytona International Speedway just after 7:30 p.m. ET on The CW, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
