Currey out, Smithley in at JDM for rest of 2023

Garrett Smithley will return to JD Motorsports for the remainder of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity season, the team announced Tuesday.
Smithley will take over JDM No. 4 Chevrolet, beginning with Saturday’s RAPTOR 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“I can’t wait to get back to Atlanta. Old Atlanta was my favorite track, but running Cup last year on the new surface was valuable and I’m excited to take what I learned to JDM,” Smithley said.
From 2016 to 2019, Smithley raced full-time for the organization. He netted four top-10 finishes, including a fifth-place finish at Daytona in February 2018.
“It’s great to have Garrett back. He’s easy to work with, has the talent to get the most out of our race cars and knows when to go and when to be patient. We’re excited to pick up where we left off with him,” team owner Johnny Davis said.

Smithley will take over for Bayley Currey, one of the first drivers named to the organization for 2023.
Currey will drive the Niece Motorsports No. 41 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Fr8 208. His future plans are still TBD.
Currey’s best 2023 finish in the No. 4 Chevrolet is 28th, at Las Vegas and Phoenix.
