David Gravel bags Outlaw-leading third win at Williams Grove

David Gravel led the final 11 laps and held off a hard-charging Danny Dietrich to win the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car feature at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.

Gravel topped Dietrich, the Pennsylvania Posse stalwart, by 1.516 seconds en route to his series-leading third win of the season.

The Jason Johnson Racing driver started on the pole, but surrendered the lead to Daryn Pittman on the backstretch of Lap 1 after mid-timing the start.

Pittman led the first 14 laps before fading to finish third. Gravel, who fell another spot to third by Lap 9, regained second when Dietrich got boxed in by a lapped car with 13 to go. Two laps later, Gravel had reeled in Pittman, who suddenly lost his advantage amid dirty air and lapped traffic.

Gravel then powered around Pittman barreling Turn 1 on Lap 14 and used a good jump on a restart with seven laps to go to hang on.

Shane Stewart and Tim Shaffer finished in the top five.

Lance Dewease, who was the quicktime recipient and saw his four-race win streak come to an end, placed sixth. Gio Scelzi, Donny Schatz, Brad Sweet, and Chad Trout rounded out the top 10.
