David Malukas Crashes in INDYCAR Practice at Nashville

Lebanon, Tenn. – David Malukas crashed into the turn two wall in NTT INDYCAR Series Saturday morning practice on the 1.33 mile oval of Nashville Superspeedway.

Malukas, driver of the No. 12 Team Penske Verizon Chevrolet, had just set the second-fastest time on the leaderboard with a 196.340 mph flyer before losing grip in the race car.

Malukas had assistance exiting the cockpit but walked to the attention of the AMR Safety Team under his own power. The 24-year-old was taken to the Vanderbilt Health Medical Center, where INDYCAR officials reported a piece of medical equipment had failed and that Malukas would be transitioning to the adjacent medical unit trailer.

It was later reported by INDYCAR Deputy Medical Director Dr. Angi Fiege that Malukas was awake, in good spirits and would be transported to a local hospital via private vehicle for further testing.

With qualifying slated for 3:00 p.m. ET, it is uncertain when Malukas will return.

Malukas has one NTT P1 Award in 2026 from Phoenix Raceway in March. He is not far removed from his best finishing position in his NTT INDYCAR Series campaign, with a second-place finish at Road America just two starts ago.
