Denny Hamlin’s victory in the Gander RV 400 at Pocono Raceway Sunday (July 28) propelled the Joe Gibbs Racing driver ahead of Fireball Roberts on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ all-time wins list.

Hamlin picked up his third win of 2019 and the 34th of his career. He is now in sole possession of 23rd on the all-time wins list.

“You want to know that you can contend for wins,” Hamlin said. “Yeah, you’re looking for momentum, but you’re just looking for wins week in, week out. So proud of this FedEx Ground team for giving us yet another winner two weeks in a row.”

Roberts raced in the Cup Series across 15 seasons (1950-1964), earning 33 wins in 206 starts.

At the beginning of the season, Hamlin was 25th on the Cup Series all-time wins list. Since then, Hamlin has passed Dale Jarrett and  Roberts on the wins list.

The next five drivers ahead of Hamlin on the Cup Series wins list are Bobby Isaac (37 wins), Tim Flock (39), Matt Kenseth (39), Mark Martin (40) and Bill Elliott (44).

Hamlin ranks fourth among active drivers for the most wins in the series. Ahead of him are Kevin Harvick (46 wins), Kyle Busch (55) and Jimmie Johnson (83).

The next race for the series is scheduled for next Sunday, August 4, at Watkins Glen International.
