Elliott earns seventh career NASCAR Cup Series road-course win

ROAD AMERICA, WISC. — Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott earned his second win of 2021 in Sunday’s Jockey Made in America 250 at Road America.
Elliott led 24 of 62 laps, including the final 17 laps, to earn his 13th career NASCAR Cup Series win.
Elliott started 34th after not being able to post a competitive lap time due to an incident involving Bubba Wallace that ended the first round of qualifying early.
“Yes, it’s a bad starting spot, a lot of opportunities to tear something up, get in the back of somebody or something back there and that’s obviously not good,” Elliott stated. “At the same time if your car is good, we made the right adjustments, all those things, I feel like 62 laps are plenty of time to work itself out. Fortunately, we did make the right changes and our car was good, we were able to move forward and have a shot.”
Despite the poor start, Elliott finished tenth in Stage One and earned one stage point.
Elliott has now won seven NASCAR Cup Series road course races. Road America is also the fifth different road course that he has won on in the series.
Elliott has won twice at Watkins Glen and the Charlotte Roval each and once at the Daytona road course and Circuit of the Americas, in addition to Road America.
Elliott sits sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings, 124 points behind points leader Denny Hamlin, heading into the July 11 Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (3:30 p.m. ET; TV: NBCSN, Radio: PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
