Erik Jones cleared to race but will not run Kansas
Doctors cleared Erik Jones to race but Legacy Motor Club will keep him out of the car “out of an abundance of caution” at Kansas Speedway.
Corey Heim will fill in for Jones. Jones will attend the race to support the No. 43 team. The team anticipates Jones will return at Darlington Raceway.
Heim finished 25th, three laps down in his NASCAR Cup Series debut while filling in for Jones at Dover Motor Speedway. Jones missed the race after injuring his back in a crash at Talladega Superspeedway.
Kansas Speedway harkens back to a similar moment for the No. 43 team.
In 2017, Aric Almirola was involved in a crash during the spring Kansas race. It left Almirola out of the No. 43 car for multiple weeks with a back injury.
While Almirola was out, Bubba Wallace (4 races), Regan Smith (2 races) and Billy Johnson (1 race) filled in.
