Former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat to make NASCAR Cup Series debut at Indy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Team Hezeberg announced Daniil Kvyat will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut this Sunday on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Kvyat will drive a No. 26 Hezeberg Toyota Camry in the July 31 Verizon 200. The three-time F1 podium finisher was fitted for a seat Monday at Team Hezeberg’s shop after the team teased a partnership July 19.
Kvyat also tested a late model with Hezeberg’s partner, Reaume Bros. Racing, July 13. He was also seen at the July 1-3 NASCAR race weekend at Road America to learn more about stock-car racing and prepare for a future start.
Kvyat is the second NASCAR Cup Series starter this season who had a prior Formula 1 start, as 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve finished 22nd for Team Hezeberg in the Daytona 500. Kvyat won’t be the last, either, as Kimi Raikkonen will race a No. 91 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet at Watkins Glen next month.
Kvyat has 110 Formula 1 starts, with a career-best finish of second in the 2015 Hungarian Grand Prix.
