Frustrated Layne Riggs gives Cam Waters a ‘Welcome to NASCAR’ moment
KANSAS CITY, Ks. — Rubbin’s racin’ but Cam Waters rubbed Layne Riggs the wrong way on the final lap of the Heart of America 200 at Kansas Speedway.
Waters won a battle with Riggs for 18th. However, he was sideways in turns three and four and ran into Riggs coming to the checkered flag.
Exiting four, Riggs returned the favor. He rubbed into Waters as both trucks already had damage. While it didn’t do anything to better Riggs’ finishing position, it did show his frustration, which he accentuated on pit road.
Waters first went over to Riggs to talk to him. Riggs expressed frustration with him, in return, as FOX captured on pit road.
Layne Riggs has had a frustrating season.
Separate from Waters’ debut at Martinsville, Riggs’ truck resembled a pinball, getting knocked around in incidents not of his accord on a night the short-track ace believed would be much better than a 15th-place finish.
Martinsville was one of two top-15 finishes Riggs has had all year. Kansas was just his third top-20 finish.
In a truck that has been a perennial favorite for the title the last two years, he sits 22nd in points, -67 to the playoff cutline, halfway through the regular season.
In the second half of the regular season, the team will need to clean up mechanical woes they encountered at COTA, the setup woes at Las Vegas and avoid wrecks like Daytona and Texas brought to them.
