JGR teammates tangle at Portland
John Hunter Nemechek’s recovery was quickly spoiled after tangling with his teammate Sammy Smith at Portland.
It happened after Creed spun Nemechek out of second-place. It was Creed’s payback after Nemechek spinning him for the stage two win.
Nemechek dropped outside of the top 15, near teammate Sammy Smith. Then, Smith dove into turn one and spun Nemechek and himself out.
They kept going but Nemechek tried wrecking Smith in the next corner.
Out of frustration, Nemechek said, “We will fight after the race. He [Sammy Smith]’s an idiot. That’s not how teammates race.”
Nemechek finished 10th, while Smith finished 30th, two laps down. They are each virtually locked into the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs.
