Jimmie Johnson to race full-time in IndyCar in 2022
Jimmie Johnson will race the entire 17-race IndyCar Series schedule in 2022, the driver announced Wednesday (Dec. 15).
“I’m going full-time next year,” Johnson said on social media. “I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the Carvana machine… including the Indy 500.”
Johnson raced in 12 events last year for team owner Chip Ganassi, scoring a season-high 17th-place twice.
Johnson, 46, previously raced in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time from 2002 to 2020, amassing a record-tying seven championships and 83 wins.
The first race of the schedule is slated for Feb. 27 on the Streets of St. Petersburg.
