Joey Gase fined $5,000 for throwing bumper at Xfinity car

NASCAR handed Joey Gase a $5,000 fine for throwing his bumper cover at Dawson Cram’s car during the Xfinity Series race in Richmond.

Officials levied the penalty based on Section 8.8.K of the rulebook:

  • A safety violation may be imposed for any action or omission by a Competitor or vehicle that creates an unsafe environment or poses a threat to the safety of the Competitors, as determined by NASCAR

After announcing the fine, Gase posted on social media, “Any bail bond companies want to sponsor this weekend!?”

Going into turn one, Cram bumped into Gase and spun him out. Gase rear-ended the wall, destroying the car.

Gase exited his car and yanked the bumper cover off. He then walked down the track as other cars were going by and threw the cover at Cram’s car.

“I hope he enjoys his souvenir,” Gase said on social media.

NASCAR said they talked with Gase about the incident. While we can’t confirm if Gase was anticipating a fine, he did post on social media about T-shirts on sale with a related design.

Cram responded, posting on social media about a similar T-shirt sale.
