By taking the checkered flag in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race at Phoenix Raceway, Joey Logano earned his second championship and 31st career win in NASCAR’s top series.

Logano’s victory tied him with fellow Cup Series competitor and past champion Martin Truex Jr. for a tie at 28th overall.

“Race wins are nice, but championships is what it’s all about,” Logano said. “We were in great position there. Everybody on the Team Penske team did so great.

“Teamwork from the get-go, working through practice together and everybody trying to put together what would be the best 22 car for us to win this championship and the goal was achieved. I can’t thank everyone enough for the opportunity.”

Entering the season, Logano was 31st on the series’ wins list. He passed Carl Edwards (28 wins) and Rex White (28 wins).

Logano won four points-awarding races in 2022 — Darlington, Gateway, Las Vegas and Phoenix — and the exhibition race at the L.A. Colosseum.

Entering 2023, Logano and Truex are behind Dale Jarrett (32), Fireball Roberts (33), Kurt Busch (34), Brad Keselowski (35), Bobby Isaac (37) on the wins list.
