Joey Logano to fill in for Hailie Deegan in Chicago

STATESVILLE, N.C. — AM Racing confirmed Monday that Joey Logano will fill in for Hailie Deegan during this Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race in Chicago.

“It is our goal at AM Racing to field a competitive race team through our technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing and provide any of our drivers the best equipment and opportunity to be successful on track each weekend,” said Wade Moore, the president of AM Racing, in a news release issued Monday. “With that being said, we haven’t had the success on track that we were hoping for in the first half of the season.”

Deegan sits 27th in points, the lowest of any driver who has started all 17 races this season. She has just seven finishes of 25th or better and no finish better than 12th (at Talladega) this season.

“When the opportunity to have Joey [Logano] in the car at Chicago became a possibility, we felt we needed to take advantage of the knowledge and feedback that a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion could provide to our teams’ growth,” Moore said.

Team partner Klutch Vodka will adorn their colors on Logano’s car in The Loop 110. The race will mark Logano’s first Xfinity Series start since Bristol in August 2019.

“Racing in the rain on Chicago’s Street Course last year was a challenge within itself. Any extra seat time is always a positive for unique tracks such as this one. Driving the NASCAR Xfinity Series cars is a lot of fun. And I’m looking forward to climbing behind the wheel with high hopes to wheel it to the front,” Logano said.

Last year, AM Racing finished fourth in the race with Brett Moffitt.
