Joey Logano: ‘We’ll be scratching our heads if we don’t run well at Gateway’

MADISON, Illinois — World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway couldn’t come at a better time for Joey Logano as he looks to turn the tide on his 2024 playoff bid.
Logano sits 30 points below the cutline after eeking out a 14th-place finish in the Coca-Cola 600.
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion has just three Top-10 finishes in the first 14 races, including consecutive finishes of second at Richmond and sixth at Martinsville where he showed race-winning pace and climbed into a playoff spot.
In the six races since then, Logano has had one race — Darlington — where he spent more than half of the race inside of the Top-15. Even then, he caught a speeding penalty near the end of that race and finished 21st.
“If we don’t run well here [at World Wide Technology Raceway], we’re gonna be scratching our heads,” Logano told TRE.

Logano finished third here last year after winning the year before. He has earned stage points in all but one stage at the track.
Logano’s performance this weekend is backing up his history. He was fastest in practice and the 10-lap average.
The only caveat is starting 12th but Logano has the pace to make up that ground.
