John Wes Townley killed in shooting: report

Former NASCAR competitor John Wes Townley has passed, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Sunday (Oct. 3.). He was 31.

Townley was killed in a double-shooting in Athens, Georgia Saturday, according to the report.

Townley competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series on and off from 2008 to 2016.

The Watkinsville, Georgia native earned one win in the truck series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2015.
