Josh Berry continues momentum in shortened Coca-Cola 600

CONCORD, N.C.- While most left Charlotte Motor Speedway engulfed in disappointment, Josh Berry left with the most momentum heโ€™s had in the NASCAR Cup Series.

With crew chief Rodney Childers and the whole No. 4 team behind him, Josh Berry is carrying on. Berry started 13th and finished 10th in the Coca-Cola 600 comes on the heels of a third-place finish at Darlington.

In the 12 points race before Darlington, Berry didn’t have a Top-10 finish all season. On Sunday, he picked up his second consecutive Top-10.

Berry didn’t luck into it either. He earned points in every stage. In stage one, he placed ninth, then eighth in stage two and 10th in stage three โ€“ when NASCAR called the race official due to inclement weather.

The stage points will be valuable as Josh Berry faces tough competition for the final playoff spot. He sits 19th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, -82 points to Chris Buescher. Before his run of Top-10s, Berry was -91 to the cutline.

Still, Berry’s impressive drive in his first Coca-Cola 600 is easily his best on 1.5-mile tracks this season. His previous best finish was his 15th at Kansas Speedway.

Berry previously won at Charlotte in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He returned to the Xfinity Series in a different capacity this past weekend.

Berry served as a pit reporter for the drivers-only FOX broadcast Saturday. He even interviewed his former Xfinity Series team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. and winner Chase Elliott.

As far as SHR, they’ll likely announce their future Cup Series plans this week.

The NASCAR Cup Series now turns its attention to the World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway next Sunday. The Enjoy Illinois 300 is set to go green at around 3:30 p.m. ET (FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

It’ll also be the first race after Stewart-Haas Racing announced they will shut down after 2024. Owners Gene Haas and Tony Stewart broke the news just two days after the Coca-Cola 600.
