Juan Pablo Montoya to return to NASCAR at Watkins Glen
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — 23XI Racing announced Friday that Juan Pablo Montoya will return to NASCAR next month driving for them at Watkins Glen International.
Montoya will drive their No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota Camry XSE in the September 15 race. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner raced in the series full-time from 2007-13 before returning to IndyCar full-time from 2014-16. His last Cup Series start was the 2014 Brickyard 400 and, before that, the June Michigan race.
“I’m looking forward to getting back in a Cup car and racing at Watkins Glen. It’s a track I really enjoy and had the chance to experience earlier in my career,” Montoya said. “It’s an honor to celebrate the Mobil 1 team’s remarkable legacy in racing and be recognized for my contributions to motorsports. I’m also excited to work with 23XI and experience what the team is building.”
Montoya won a Cup Series race at Watkins Glen in 2010.
Montoya’s return will mark the final appearance of the No. 50 Mobil 1 Toyota Camry XSE this season. In the No. 50 car, Corey Heim finished 29th at Nashville Superspeedway. That’s the same finish Kamui Kobayashi earned in it at Circuit of the Americas.
