Kyle Larson ties Kyle Petty on wins list

In a dominating performance, Kyle Larson led 327 of the 400 laps in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 to capture his second win of the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Larson earned his eighth career win in his 238th career start, tying Kyle Petty on the series’ all-time wins list. The two Kyle’s are tied for 66th all-time.
“I did not expect to be this good,” Larson said of his race. “I had hoped to. It’s still early in the year, but I don’t know, I knew I would be good.”
Paul Goldsmith, Cotton Owens and Bob Welborn are the next set of drivers ahead of Larson on the wins list with nine apiece.
Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, William Byron and Alex Bowman rounded out the Top-5 finishers.
THROUGH THE FIELD
Points leader Denny Hamlin finished seventh.
Last year’s Coke 600 winner, Brad Keselowski, finished 11th after leading six laps.
Chase Briscoe was the highest finishing rookie in 23rd, three laps down.
David Starr finished 36th, 31 laps down, in his first Cup Series start of 2020.
OUTLOOK
The next race for the Cup Series is scheduled for next Sunday, June 6, at Sonoma Raceway. Martin Truex Jr. is the most recent winner at the California road course (2019).
Denny Hamlin continues to lead the points after 15 races over Kyle Larson (-76), William Byron (-76), Chase Elliott (-92) and Joey Logano (-127).
