Leland Honeyman, Young’s tops best career Xfinity finish again

AVONDALE, ARIZ. — For the second week in a row, Leland Honeyman topped his best career finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Honeyman finished 11th at Phoenix Raceway. He finished a career-best 18th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which bested a career-best 21st-place finish at Atlanta the weekend before.

Honeyman qualified 24th. However, they had a brake fan issue that put them at the rear of the field to start the race.

“We learned a lot with race pace, consistency, on and off pit road. Other than that, I felt like for a new team we had a really good day. I’m excited to go to COTA,” Honeyman said.

Saturday was Honeyman’s 12th career Xfinity Series start. Even younger (no pun intended), it was the fourth start in the series for Young’s Motorsports.

The organization struggled at Daytona but have avoided trouble the last three weeks.

“I think overall we’ve improved every single time. I’ve knocked out a career-best finish or tied it, beat it by a long run today. I’m excited to see how this plays out. We have work to do and we’re not done. We’re here to prove something,” Honeyman said.

Honeyman said the organization will focus on what they could’ve done better. He said they’ll focus on making sure that what they did right, they will do right again in the future.

“We want to be consistent, finish races and have top-20 finishes. I’ve raced at Richmond. I really like the intermediates, we do really good at. The momentum based tracks, the mile-and-a-halfs, Kansas and Homestead,” he said.
