Ron Vandermeir Jr. finished 11th Saturday in his ARCA Menards Series debut at Elko Speedway.

Vandermeir Jr., a three-time Mid-American Stock Car Series champion, finished three laps down after a spin in turn one with ten laps to go.

Vandermeir Jr. challenged Willie Mullins for ninth-place prior to spinning late.

Vandermeir Jr. stated, “for the first time, we did okay. Tire strategy, adjustments, we went the wrong way with it for the last pit stop. Overall, we did alright the first time but a lot to learn, a lot to grasp.”

Vandermeir Jr.’s crew chief is his dad, Ron Sr., who he has worked with in other forms of racing, including MidAm.

“The two of us, we’ve had success with it,” Vandermeir Jr. stated, “and we got surrounded by a different group of guys running ARCA stuff and we have a good group moving forward.”

Looking ahead to 2021, Vandermier Jr. is planning to do three more races with his family team. He is looking to do more races in 2022 but his plans will depend on how much sponsorship he will have.
