JD Motorsports w/Gary Keller announced Tuesday morning that veteran Mike Wallace will be returning to the team for the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ inaugural race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

The race, currently scheduled for July 4, will mark the return of a pairing that earned one top 5, four top 10s and 40 laps led in 152 Xfinity races from 2009 to 2013.

The return will also come in the first race for any NASCAR series on the famed track’s road course configuration.

“Johnny and I have always kept a good dialogue going through the years,” Wallace said. “We started talking about my doing something with his team again and when the idea of Indy came up, we both agreed that was the perfect place.”

Further details regarding a number, sponsor and crew chief are TBA.

Wallace last raced for JD Motorsports w/Gary Keller in the 2013 Ford Ecoboost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway and has won four Xfinity Series races, including a 1994 race at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Wallace also started the first Brickyard 400 and the first Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
