NASCAR Cup: Bowman to race in Mexico City with Alfredo on standby
MEXICO CITY — Hendrick Motorsports confirmed Alex Bowman will have Anthony Alfredo on standby this weekend when the NASCAR Cup Series races in Mexico City.

Doctors evaluated Bowman this week for back pain after a hard crash in last week’s Cup Series race at Michigan. Hendrick Motorsports decided to have Alfredo on standby “as a precaution.”
“Alfredo is entered in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez and has prepared extensively for the road course as the organization’s primary simulator driver,” the organization stated Thursday.
Bowman crashed head-on into the outside wall during the second stage of the race in Michigan. He described it as one of the hardest hits he ever took in his racing career.
In the last nine races, Bowman has had seven finishes outside of the top-25 and is now just above the provisional playoff cutline. Luckily, road courses are a strong suit for him — he has five top-10 finishes in the last nine road course races, including a win last year in Chicago and a ninth-place finish at Circuit of the Americas in March.
