NASCAR grants playoff waiver to Chase Elliott
For the second time this season, NASCAR granted Chase Elliott a waiver to remain eligible for the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
NASCAR gave Elliott a one-race suspension for wrecking Denny Hamlin in the Coca-Cola 600. He will miss this Sunday’s race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
Without the waiver, Elliott wouldn’t be playoff-eligible as you must attempt every race.
Since 2014, NASCAR has approved 24 of 27 waiver requests, including Elliott’s injury waiver earlier this year.
Other approved requests include for Josh Williams earlier this year, Johnny Sauter in 2019 and Kurt Busch in 2015 after NASCAR suspended each of them.
The only three waivers NASCAR didn’t approve were:
- Grant Enfinger, 2021, missed a race due to no sponsorship
- Kaz Grala, 2018, missed races due to no sponsorship
- Spencer Gallagher, 2018, violated substance abuse policy
