Newman scores last-place finish following early wreck at Bristol

Ryan Newman’s tough season continued in Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race as Newman fell out of the race following a Lap 169 wreck.
Newman hit the wall on Lap 169 in a wreck involving Cole Custer and Daniel Suarez. Custer and Suarez continued – with damage – but Newman failed to reach minimum speed and was forced to retire from the race, per the Damaged Vehicle Policy.
“I don’t know. I got turned into the fence,” Newman stated. “I’m not sure if it was my fault or if I got hooked or what, but it ended our day for our Kohler Generators Ford.”
The wreck led to Newman’s third DNF of the 2021 season.
Newman sits 25th in NASCAR Cup Series points, five points behind Daniel Suarez and six points ahead of Erik Jones.
Newman has earned two Top-5 finishes and five Top-10 finishes this season, an improvement from only two Top-10s in 2020.
