In fact, the Pennsylvania native โ€” who raced against the likes of Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty and Alan Kulwicki in the NASCAR Cup Series in 1989 โ€” is planning to attempt several races.

Benning confirmed to The Racing Experts he will take his No. 6 self-owned Truck to the season-opening Daytona race next week, both Martinsville races (April and November), and Talladega in October.

At the time of publication, Benning will carry sponsorship from Food Country, JZL, MDIA, and Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, but is continuing to look for more partners.

โ€œI really appreciate the sponsorship I have, and it always helps to have adequate sponsorship to cover the expenses, and the research and development,โ€ Benning said to The Racing Experts.

The truck Benning will attempt to qualify for Daytona with is a former Henderson Motorsports racetruck.

“Tom Clavette and the guys from Henderson Motorsports have helped me since Talladega, they’re helping me at Daytona, and I really appreciate it,” Benning said.

Benning said racing the 1.5-mile tracks is the most expensive and will opt out of attempting races at those tracks. However, Benning is open to more races.

โ€œIโ€™d love to run all the races, but itโ€™s too much work for my little team,โ€ he said.

Benning has attempted races in the series every year since 2006, attempting full-time schedules from 2009 to 2015 and 2017.

If Benning can make at least two starts this year, he will eclipse 250 career starts in the series. Benning is ranked 10th all-time in most starts in the series. Three-time series champion Matt Crafton has the most starts at 567.

โ€œAs long as Iโ€™m healthy, and can afford it, I have no plans to stop,โ€ Benning said. โ€œYou have to have the money and physically able to do it. Iโ€™ve been blessed with 20-20 vision, everythingโ€™s fine. I weigh five pounds more than when I graduated high school. I stay in shape.โ€

Benning’s career-high finish of 12th in the series came at Talladega in October 2013. Benning has posted seven Top-15 finishes across his career.
