NXS: AJ Allmendinger ties Denny Hamlin on wins list
A.J. Allmendinger picked up his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory of 2024 and the 18th of his career Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, tying the Kaulig Racing driver with Denny Hamlin on the series’ all-time wins list at 19th overall.
The victory for Allmendinger came in his 128th series start, snapping a 31-race winless streak, dating back to Nashville Superspeedway in June 2023 when the 42-year-old driver raced a partial schedule due to racing in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time.
“What a crazy year, what an up-and-down year,” Allmendinger said. “…It’s been a lot of years not winning in this sport.”
By winning at Las Vegas, Allmendinger extended a streak of winning at least once per year in the NASCAR Xfinity Series to six straight seasons.
Additionally, for the second time in his Xfinity Series career, Allmendinger will race for the series title at Phoenix next month with an automatic berth to the Championship 4. Previously, Allmendinger finished fourth in points in 2021.
Wins List
Hamlin and Allmendinger are tied for 19th on the all-time series’ wins list.
Of Allmendinger’s 18 victories, the California native has won 16 races with Kaulig Racing, with his other two wins with Team Penske in 2013.
Ahead of the two on the win list include Christopher Bell (19), Greg Biffle (20), Dale Earnhardt (21), and Harry Gant (21).
The all-time series leader is 2009 series champion Kyle Busch with 102 victories, followed by Mark Martin (49), two-time series champion Kevin Harvick (47), 2010 champion Brad Keselowski (39), and 2007 champion Carl Edwards (38).
The next race for the series is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
