Herbst will race for 23XI Racing in NASCAR’s premier series in 2025, the team announced on Wednesday (Nov. 20).

The team will field three full-time entries with Herbst racing the No. 35 entry with sponsorship from Monster Energy alongside teammates Bubba Wallace (No. 23) and Tyler Reddick (No. 45).

“It’s an honor to join 23XI and Toyota for the opportunity to race in the Cup Series each week,” Herbst said in a news release. “Racing full-time in the Cup Series has been my goal since I started in NASCAR and I’m excited to start my Cup career with such an accomplished and driven team.”

The 25-year-old race driver previously raced full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series since 2020, racing for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2020 and Stewart-Haas Racing from 2021 through this year. Herbst amassed three wins, all with SHR, and four playoff appearances.

The Las Vegas native has made eight prior Cup Series starts since 2023, earning two Top-10 finishes (career-high of ninth at Talladega Oct. 2023).

““Everyone at TRD is pleased to support 23XI Racing as they continue to grow their program in the NASCAR Cup Series with the addition of Riley Herbst in a third full-time entry for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season,” said Tyler Gibbs, the general manager of TRD USA. “Having worked with Riley in the past, we have watched his growth over the last several seasons in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.”

NASCAR determines rookie eligibility on a case-by-case basis for each of its series, and based on Herbst’s limited starts over the years, it is likely Herbst will be a 2025 candidate for the Sunoco Rookie-of-the-Year award.
