Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth granted waivers

Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth are eligible to make the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, NASCAR announced Tuesday (April 28).
Newman and Kenseth have missed races during the 2020 season but the sanctioning body is waiving its requirements for the two veteran drivers.
Drivers are eligible for the NASCAR Cup Series post-season if they compete in every points-awarding race and maintain a top-30 position in driver’s standings.

Newman sustained injuries in a last-lap crash in February’s Daytona 500. Ross Chastain substituted for Newman in the following three races in the No. 6 Ford.
Kenseth, the 2003 series champion, is replacing Kyle Larson in the No. 42 Chevrolet at Chip Ganassi Racing. He will be making his first NASCAR start since November 2018 when the season resumes.
Newman is ranked 29th in points four races into 2020 while Kenseth has 0 points.
