Cope: StarCom Racing to attempt Texas, Phoenix

StarCom Racing will attempt two more NASCAR premier series races this season, The Racing Experts have learned.

SCR, which made its debut at Kansas last week, will attempt to qualify for Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races at Texas and Phoenix next month, according to team manager and driver Derrike Cope.

“That’s really just a three-race deal,” Cope said. “Just to… have good sense of what we need to do, and then, readdress things through the winter, and then we’ve got to cut bodies off and go with the new Camaro body, and get ready for next year.”

Cope said he will be the driver in the two remaining races on the team’s schedule this season. His role during the off-season will continue as team manager; working with six other employees, including two people in marketing.

“We’re looking for funded drivers for next year,” Cope said. “I’ll drive some, but we’re looking for drivers that have some funding, that have some experience, and can come and help build the team.”

In the team’s debut effort at Kansas Speedway, Cope started 39th and finished 40th, falling out of the race due to “handling” after completing 35 of 267 laps.
