Supercars export Cam Waters’ NASCAR debut ends early

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Repco Supercars export Cam Waters’ first foray into NASCAR was memorable even if it didn’t end well for him.
Waters finished 30th, out of the race at lap 176 — 24 laps shy of the checkered flag.
Waters started 22nd after running 13th-fastest in practice on his 13th lap. When the first caution fell on lap 31, he had dropped back to 24th, prompting crew chief Josh Hankish to bring him to pit road for fresh tires.
Waters stayed out while others pitted and ran as high as 12th on lap 75.
As stage two went green, Waters dropped back into the 20s and logged valuable laps for the future. On the FS1 broadcast, they revealed Waters would be back in the No. 66 truck at Kansas Speedway later in the year.
At Kansas, however, Waters likely won’t hear this over the radio:
“It’s all beat up, you can use it up some more.”
Waters received that message from his team after getting in a wreck on lap 168. On the subsequent restart, Waters ran hard but had nowhere to go when teammate Jake Garcia braked hard in front of him, trying to avoid a wreck.
“Good job, Cam, you did everything you could do. There was nothing you could do there.”
Waters has 11 Repco Supercar wins to his name. He currently races a No. 6 Ford for Tickford Racing.
