Ty Gibbs to fill in for Kurt Busch again at Indy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the second week in a row, Ty Gibbs will drive 23XI Racing’s No. 45 Toyota and fill in for Kurt Busch.

Gibbs will make his second NASCAR Cup Series this Sunday, July 31, on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Last Sunday at Pocono Raceway, Gibbs made his Cup debut. He filled in for Busch after it was announced Sunday morning he was not cleared to race due to concussion-like symptoms.

Kurt Busch, the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion, released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

Kurt Busch last missed consecutive Cup races in 2015 when he missed the first three races due to domestic abuse allegations. Insufficient evidence was found and authorities did not pursue charges against Busch, prompting his reinstatement in early March 2015.

Ty Gibbs finished 18th in his NASCAR Cup Series debut July 24 at Pocono Raceway. He finished 19th after leading 4 laps in last year’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
