VIDEO: 1-on-1 with Save the Speedway co-founder on North Wilkesboro
NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — Before Marcus Smith and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s efforts at North Wilkesboro Speedway, there was Save the Speedway.
The group formed in 2005 as an organized effort to revive the hallowed NASCAR track.
After a revival attempt in 2010-11 and talks with Smith that began in 2018, NASCAR returned to the track this May for the All-Star Race weekend.
Save the Speedway co-founder Steven Wilson discusses the 18 long years – and then some – it took for North Wilkesboro to get back on its feet.
Wilson also discusses what he believes is next for the track and what people are thinking after the big weekend.
