What is new for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season?

Heading into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, there are notable changes in store for over a third of the 36 chartered teams.

The changes vary, whether it’s a new sponsor – like Ross Chastain (Anheuser-Busch), Christopher Bell (Mobil 1) or Michael McDowell (Margaritaville at Sea) are experiencing – or something bigger.

Spire Motorsports

Rookie Zane Smith will race for the new No. 71 team with crew chief Stephen Doran. Meanwhile, Carson Hocevar will replace Ty Dillon in the No. 77 with crew chief Luke Lambert, who moves over from the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club team.

Legacy Motor Club

With new sponsors, AdventHealth and Dollar Tree/Family Dollar, and also a switch to Toyota, driver John Hunter Nemechek and crew chief Ben Beshore will replace Noah Gragson and Lambert, respectively, on the No. 42 team.

Stewart-Haas Racing

Gragson will get a bid for redemption, joining Josh Berry as the new driver talent at Stewart-Haas Racing. They’ll take over for Aric Almirola and Kevin Harvick with their crew chiefs Drew Blickensderfer and Rodney Childers.

Rick Ware Racing

SHR’s Ford teammate team hired Justin Haley to drive the No. 51 full-time. Meanwhile, Kaz Grala will drive the No. 15 for most of the season. Grala will get No. 51 team crew chief Billy Plourde while Haley will get Chris Lawson as crew chief.

Kaulig Racing

Taking over for Haley at Kaulig Racing is Daniel Hemric. Meanwhile, it’s been announced that A.J. Allmendinger will split the No. 16 with Josh Williams.

The No. 16 team and the Trackhouse No. 99 team swapped crew chiefs. As a result, Travis Mack will serve as crew chief for the No. 16 team. Matt Swiderski will serve as crew chief for the No. 99 team with Daniel Suarez at the helm.
