William Sawalich released from hospital after Talladega crash
LINCOLN, Ala. — William Sawalich has been released from the hospital after a crash in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Sawalich was taken to the hospital for further evaluation after a crash during the race.
The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native started up front in the 94-lap affair and even earned a stage point in the first stage. However, losing some key help — teammates Brandon Jones and Taylor Gray — to issues hampered him during a caution-filled first half of the race.
The final caution of the first half of the race caught Sawalich out. He crashed in turn one with Connor Mosack, Connor Zilisch, Dean Thompson and others.
The crash prompted a 10-minute, 35-second red flag just before the end of the second stage. While everyone else was checked and released from the infield care center, Sawalich was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. He is now out.
Sawalich released the following statement on social media:
“Appreciate all the messages and calls last night. Finally made it back home from Talladega — a little sore, but feeling better and thankful for all the support. Grateful for my team, the racing community, the NASCAR medical staff, nurses and doctors at UAB Hospital, friends and family.”
Sawalich entered Talladega sitting 17th in the driver’s points standings. Although the year didn’t start off well and saw him miss the playoffs, he has had a big turnaround.
After scoring just two top-10 finishes in the 14 races, he has earned seven top-10 finishes — including three top-five finishes — in the 16 races since then. That has allowed him to climb from 25th to 17th in points and is raising his prospects of being a serious title contender in the future.
