A look at the NASCAR Charlotte race weekend forecast, rain chances
The NASCAR races at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend could be impacted by inclement weather.
Shower chances near the track range from 50 to 100 percent throughout Saturday and Saturday night with “patchy fog then showers and patchy fog,” according to the National Weather Service.
Because of the chances of rain Saturday, officials moved up some of the on-track activity for the O’Reilly and Cup Series.
“Practice and qualifying will move up two hours to 8:30 a.m. (ET) for the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and 11 a.m. for the NASCAR Cup Series,” Charlotte Motor Speedway said in a news release.
At this time, the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts race, scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, remains unchanged.
On Sunday, the NWS says there are “showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 p.m. (ET), then a slight chance of showers.” The NWS has put the chance of precipitation at 80 percent with a high temperature of 76.
By Sunday night, the NWS says the forecast is “mostly clear, with a low of 81.”
The Cup Series’ Bank of America is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday.
In May, rain delayed and postponed on-track activity throughout the weekend. Daniel Suarez ultimately won the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600, capping off NASCAR’s on-track activity during Memorial Day weekend.
