The reigning INDY 500 and NTT INDYCAR Series champion spent the majority of the day in the bottom half of the leaderboard.

But his late 225.937mph run topped Marcus Armstrong’s 225.895mph run, though everyone is still a long way off the 230mph range as the field ramps up their long practice week.

Noblesville’s Conor Daly finished the session in third. He’s followed by a pair of winners in Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon as they rounded out the top five best times.

Alexander Rossi ran the most laps with 116. Then, his Ed Carpenter Racing teammate Christian Rasmussen set the second most at 89 which tied with Daly.

Andretti Global had all three of their drivers in the top four in the opening non-tow leaderboard.

Kyle Kirkwood led the session with a 222.062mph. Then came his new teammate Will Power in second by over half an mph. Marcus Ericsson came in fourth.

Dreyer Reinbold Racing placed “Hollywood” Jack Harvey in third of the non-tow times. The Indianapolis only outfit looks primed to compete amongst the very best once more.
