The race, first on the schedule in 1959, has been the season-opener since 1982. Three-time NASCAR champion Lee Petty won the inaugural event.

The first seven Daytona 500 featured seven different winners before Richard Petty, who is the all-time Daytona 500 wins leader at seven, became the first multi-champion of the seriesโ€™ biggest race in 1966.

In total, 43 drivers have won the race with 12 drivers winning on more than one occasion. Eight drivers entered for the 2025 Daytona 500 are past champions of the race.

The 67th Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2:30 p.m., on FOX, Motor Racing Network, Sirius XM NASCAR Radio (200 laps; Stages end on laps 65, 130, 200).
